About John
Soccer. Style. Stavros.
John Stavros is a cultural architect whose life spans six decades of influence across sport, fashion, music, and art. Born in Greece and raised in New York, he became a Hall of Fame athlete at Long Island University and was drafted by the New York Cosmos in 1974. In 1977, he founded one of the earliest modern women’s soccer teams in the U.S., paving part of the path toward America’s future dominance in the sport.
His creative work grew from the 1960s London rock scene and 1970s–80s New York, where he intersected with major cultural figures, including Andy Warhol, Antonio Lopez, and the New York Dolls. Today his legacy evolves through Team Gear94, publishing, product innovation, and creative mentorship.
